On her painting, Fossati says, “I prefer to work on location for this type of pastel drawing. Since I am dependent on the uncontrolled come and go of people, environment and an eventual serendipitous subject, a pastel evolves over time, until it feels resolved. I began this pastel in 2019 when Rhode Island beaches were packed. The situation changed drastically during the pandemic of 2020. Beach-goers were sparse and separate. The woman with the hat appeared comfortable and confident in her place. She caught my attention, inspired me and entered My Space.”
